Shipping Tips

Please read carefully the information below, which is particularly important when shipping goods to Jamaica.

Personal Effects Shipping Tips
Ensure that names and addresses are correctly spelt on all packages and shipping documentation because a fee is charged by Customs for any amendments to these.
Always provide a local telephone contact number for the consignee.
Ensure that you have your agent's full details in Jamaica for follow up.
If you are likely to collect the shipment, ensure that it is in your name and the name of a local resident - This enables either to clear it without incurring extra amendment fees or delays.
During the months of October through December delays are eminent at the ports.   We therefore suggest you ship early and take advantage of our door-to-door service which will enable you to receive your goods faster.
When shipping door-to-door please supply the nickname(s) as well as the real name of the person receiving the goods. Very often people are known only by their nicknames.
If you are NOT shipping door-to-door do not ship to an alias as an official form of identification such as a passport, driving licence of national identity card is required to enable goods to be released by customs.
Avoid shipping perishables.
Do not ship taintable items together unless it is insulated, for example, soap with rice or flour. The smell of the soap taints the other foodstuff.
Ensure fragile items, plastic and glass bottles are packaged properly
Take out an adequate amount of marine insurance cover cargo being transported in the event of damages.
A Tax Registration Number (TRN) is required for all importers which can be obtained from any collectorate islandwide.

Commercial Cargo tips:

Always ensure cargo is properly packaged for carriage - speak with your shipper or supplier on this.
If importing or exporting pharmaceutical, agricultural and certain foods items require permits and licences.   Prior to any importation one should confer with the Jamaica Bureau of Standards, Jampro, and JEA.
Always insure your cargo.
Ensure your cargo arrives prior to the busy period of November on wards, to avoid the Christmas rush at the ports.
