Ensure that names and addresses are correctly spelt on all packages and shipping documentation because a fee is charged by Customs for any amendments to these. |

Always provide a local telephone contact number for the consignee. |

Ensure that you have your agent's full details in Jamaica for follow up. |

If you are likely to collect the shipment, ensure that it is in your name and the name of a local resident - This enables either to clear it without incurring extra amendment fees or delays. |

During the months of October through December delays are eminent at the ports. We therefore suggest you ship early and take advantage of our door-to-door service which will enable you to receive your goods faster. |

When shipping door-to-door please supply the nickname(s) as well as the real name of the person receiving the goods. Very often people are known only by their nicknames. |

If you are NOT shipping door-to-door do not ship to an alias as an official form of identification such as a passport, driving licence of national identity card is required to enable goods to be released by customs. |

Avoid shipping perishables. |

Do not ship taintable items together unless it is insulated, for example, soap with rice or flour. The smell of the soap taints the other foodstuff. |

Ensure fragile items, plastic and glass bottles are packaged properly |

Take out an adequate amount of marine insurance cover cargo being transported in the event of damages. |

A Tax Registration Number (TRN) is required for all importers which can be obtained from any collectorate islandwide. |
